RaceDay Scoring can generate test reads for you, so you can confirm a Race is set up correctly without waiting for real timing data. The reads flow into the Streams assigned to a Timing Location exactly like live data, so your segments, scoring, reports, and auto-saves all behave the way they will on race day. This is the fastest way to find a setup problem while you still have time to fix it.
Before you start
- Save the Timing Location first. If you have not saved it, RaceDay Scoring tells you to before it will generate or clear anything.
- Test reads are real reads. They are stored as Raw and Scored reads, and you clear them the same way you would clear any other reads.
- Check your auto-saves first. If a report already auto-saves to RunSignup, your test results can publish online. Review your auto-save settings before you generate reads, and clear the results afterward if anything did publish.
Generate test reads
Go to Timing Locations, open the location you want to test, and expand the Generate Test Reads and Replay Existing Raw Reads panel. It starts collapsed.
- In How many occurrences at this location per participant?, enter the number of times each participant crosses this location. A row appears in the table below for each occurrence. A Start/Finish location usually needs 2.
- For each row, set the Start Time and End Time. RaceDay Scoring pre-fills a window from your expected start and finish times. The start has to be before the end.
- To limit the test to some participants, enter a range under Generate Reads for Bibs Between. Fill in both boxes. Use Add Another Range for more than one range.
- In Reads Per Second, enter 0 for instant replay, or a low number such as 5 to watch results build the way they would during a race.
- Click Start. You will see "Sending generated data to streams."
If you see "Time ranges are required," set the number of occurrences first, because that is what creates the rows. If you see "Occurrence 1 - Start time must be before end time," fix that row's times.
What to check once the reads land
- Reads arrive at the Timing Location, and the counts look right.
- Times land in the correct Scored Event, and in each Segment if you set up splits.
- Your reports populate: overall, age group, and team scoring.
- Top Finisher and award categories fill in as you expect.
- Any auto-saves you have set up produce output.
Clear your test reads
Clear the reads before race day so you do not start with test data.
On the Timing Location, click Clear Reads. This clears all Raw and Scored reads for that location. RaceDay Scoring asks "Do you want to clear locked reads as well?" Choose Yes to remove locked reads too, or No to leave them in place.
Replay reads you already have
The same panel has a Replay Raw Reads section. Set Reads Per Second and click Replay to run your existing Raw Reads back through processing. Use this after you change read settings, start times, or bib assignments.
Recalculate Times in the Timing Location toolbar does the same work, recalculating Scored Reads from your existing Raw Reads, without the speed control.
