Marker Reads are sent over to RaceDay Scoring via the Stream - identifying marker reads varies from hardware to hardware so how a read is sent will not be covered in this article.

Why map Marker Reads to Event Start Times manually?

It is not uncommon for Timers to test their hardware's Marker function prior to the start of an event at least once, if not multiple times. This testing is useful, but it makes using the automatic mapping of reads to start times impractical, as the actual occurrence that should be used may not be known until after the event actually starts or some verification is completed.

Manually mapping Marker Reads is an excellent way to use the actual start time sent from the timing hardware without having to remember the time and type it out on the Scored Event/Corral screen.

Setting Event Start Times Manually:

To use Marker Reads to Manually Set Event Start Times, the Markers must already have been sent over to RaceDay Scoring.

This can be confirmed by viewing Markers on the Raw Read screen, however Marker Reads cannot be mapped to Scored Events from this screen.

Before mapping Marker Reads, the Actual Start Time of the Scored Event should be clear - if there is a time assigned in this box it should be cleared out prior to manually mapping Marker Reads:

To map Marker Reads, navigate to the Locations tab. and then click "Marker Reads" on the Location that has an assigned stream sending Markers to RDS:

On the Marker Reads screen there will be two columns; the first column shows the Markers (identified by occurrence number) and their Timestamp, the second column shows the mapping of the Markers to Scored Events or Corrals. Markers are shown in order that they are received, which may not be the order that they need to be assigned - for example, when testing timing hardware before an event Timers may be sending a test marker to RDS that offsets all of the marker occurrences.

To map a Marker's occurrence to a Scored Event click the pencil/edit icon next to the desired Event (or use the Map Start Time button if adding a corral):

Select which Marker should be used by changing the Occurrence number to match the correct time, and then select either the Scored Event or Corral that time should be mapped to.

Note that although a single Marker can be mapped to multiple Scored Events or Corrals, each Scored Event or Corral can only have one Marker associated with them:

The mapping will show whether a Marker's mapping is to a Scored Event or a Corral once set - it is important to remember that, if set, Actual Start Times for Corrals will override the Actual Start Time for Scored Events when calculating Clock times or determining if a read will be used or not.

Once start times are mapped, they will populate the Actual Start Times for the Scored Event/Corrals.
